Want dank lashes? Try CBD-infused mascara

Milk Makeup’s newest mascara is dope. Literally.

Appropriately launched on 4/20, the mascara is infused with CBD-rich cannabis oil to condition your lashes and keep them healthy (or as Milk puts it—get them sky high).

I’m something of a mascara connoisseur.  I have tried—I shit you not—dozens upon dozens of different mascaras. I’ve been getting eyelash extensions for almost a year now, but for some reason, that doesn’t keep me from wearing mascara on a regular (if not daily) basis. Some days, I only wear it on the bottom lashes, but—if I’m being honest—I typically still swipe a coat on every day, especially when it’s almost time for a fill. I’m too extra for my own good, what can I say?

The first thing I noticed about this mascara was the packaging. The sleek silver tube feels substantial—I mean, that thing is surprisingly heavy. Based on the packaging, I had high hopes for the product. Pun intended. 😉 Impressive packaging aside, I wasn’t holding my breath. I know how deceiving packaging can be—just because a product looks nice doesn’t mean it will deliver.

Like I said, I’ve tried a lot of mascara—like, a lot. From drugstore to high-end, I’ve put in the legwork. This mascara can hang with the best of them. The formula reminds me of a fiber mascara in that it goes beyond what I expect from your average, run-of-the-mill mascara.  The jet black formula coated my lashes making them fuller, thicker and longer. As an added bonus, I didn’t noticed any fragrance in Kush. I am weirdly sensitive to the smell of different mascaras (looking at you, Dior Show), and the lack of fragrance in this mascara was a definite plus for me.

Since getting eyelash extensions, I have had to be careful about the mascaras that I use. Some are too harsh and cause my extensions to fall out, while others don’t have enough staying power leaving me with fallout and smudging. The CBD oil in Kush gives my eyelashes the additional volume and length that I want, while nourishing my lashes— not drying them out.

No matter how good the formula of a mascara is, the brush can make or break the entire experience. Kush’s brush—aptly named the Puff Puff Brush—is about as good as a mascara wand can be. For starters, it’s huge. The large, tapered brush has criss-cross bristles to coat each and every lash for a defined, clump-free look. Thanks to the combination of the size and shape of the brush, it grabs each and every lash and coats it with the jet black formula.

For me, one of the most important aspects of a mascara wand is it’s ability to coat the bottom lashes. This brush pulls doubly duty. Not only is it large enough to coat your top lashes, it’s versatile enough to get the delicate bottom lashes, too.

Just because I initially love a mascara doesn’t mean I’ll still love it at the end of the day. Actually, one of the main reasons I ended up getting eyelash extensions was due to the irritation I kept experiencing from mascara. It seemed like no matter what mascara I used, it kept flaking into my eyes leaving me with perpetually red, irritated eyes. I was impressed with Kush when I first applied it, but maintained a healthy dose of skepticism about whether or not it would 1) last throughout the day 2) not irritate the shit out of my eyes.

I was pleasantly surprised by this mascara for a number of reasons. First of all, it has impressive staying power. I really wanted to put this mascara to the test, so I wore it every day for a week and didn’t experience any flaking or smudging.

This is especially impressive considering the week I had. The first day I tried it, I ended up having it on for 12+ hours, including getting caught in the rain. When I got home and looked in the mirror, my mascara was still entirely intact. The second day I used Kush ended up being the first warm day in Michigan and, naturally, I had to run all over God’s green earth for a client. Like, literally run. (Well, not literally run. But I did do a lot of walking). By the time I got to my event, I was a sweaty mess. I did a discreet makeup check using FaceTime on my Macbook, fully anticipating that I would have raccoon eyes. To my surprise, I didn’t. Kush held up—no smudging, no running. Dope.

This mascara does everything I want a mascara to do, with the added benefit of having ingredients that are actually beneficial for my lashes. Not only do my lashes look fuller and longer, I don’t have to worry about it harming my eyelash extensions or making me look like a raccoon. I did receive this product for free from Influenster and Milk Makeup, but I fully intend on purchasing it with my own money when this tube runs out. I have used this mascara every single day since I got it—meaning I have abandoned the OG, ride-or-die mascara I have been using faithfully for almost 5 years. That’s a BFD if you ask me.
